Microdosing & PTSD - Part 4

As promised here’s some thoughts on microdosing if you have PTSD.

As someone who has spent many years healing my CPTSD with great success through Self Regulation Therapy, my first suggestion is that you see a good Somatic therapist to assess the amount of sympathetic arousal/activation you’ve got happening, especially too if your’e dissociative.

If you can’t afford that start with Peter Levine’s book, Waking the Tiger or some of Robert Scaer’s stuff on YouTube.

It’s really important that you understand what’s happening in your nervous system because you don’t want to be making things worse.

Yes, I’ve had more than one person end up in my office who has been to a macrodosing ceremony to heal their PTSD and although at first they feel relief, they’re not receiving appropriate support and integration to titrate the experience or renegotiate the trauma and ultimately discharge the old trapped excess fight or flight. So they end up with more activation than when they started.

All that said, if you have channels of dissipation and you can regulate enough to allow energy to move through and out (tingling, twitching, yawning, eye watering, heat, trembling) then microdosing can really help to bring some relief. Especially if you’re in a setting that’s grounded and safe and peaceful. The medicine is sub-perceptual so you are really just bringing awareness to sensation and this can be very helpful if you’re someone who lives in your head and you’re practising dipping into sensation.

Just remember that things can get amplified so if you’re having flashbacks or intrusive thoughts, I wouldn’t suggest it until you’re further along your healing journey.

Also if you’re having a tough time with sleep be careful because the serotonin can exacerbate that. I find some melatonin helps to counter that but I’m not a doctor so you’d have to sort what is best for you.

It’s a complex subject but I hope this helps.
